Stop Leads To Suspected Meth Dealer
- Greensburg Daily News

WESTPORT — Sheriff Greg Allen on Tuesday helped a colleague arrest one of the sheriff’s neighbors on meth-related charges.Bill Cathey, 41, was booked into the Decatur County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and dealing in methamphetamine. He was being held without bond.At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy Tony Blodgett stopped Cathey on State Road 3 in Westport because the plates on his vehicle had expired. Sheriff Allen, who was in the area and assisted Blodgett, said Cathey was nervous, and Blodgett spotted in a door pocket bags of what he suspected were drugs.Allen said that once Blodgett spotted the bags, Cathey cooperated and was taken into custody. At about 8 p.m., Allen, four deputies and officers of Westport Police Department searched Cathey’s property on South Water Plant Road, where they recovered drug paraphernalia. Allen said further charges are pending.Allen said Cathey’s property borders his, and authorities have suspected for some time that Cathey is involved with drugs. Sometimes it takes authorities some time to catch drug abusers and dealers, but Allen said that eventually, they will get caught and face some serious time in jail or prison. At the same time, Allen said he empathizes with people who get addicted, because breaking an addiction is difficult. Addiction makes people do things they normally would not, Allen said, including using drugs next to the sheriff’s home.“You wonder what they’re thinking,” Allen said. “(But) with that drug, they get to the point where they don’t care.”
